I took a stack of ATC’s or ACEO’s to trade at Make It University! in Houston at the Houston International Quilt Festival last month. I wanted to show what I brought home in exchange. Thank you to all the artist’s who traded cards.  It was really fun to see the work and take home little pieces of your work! I’m thinking a lot about leaves right now, and there were lots of beautiful leafy pieces to enjoy.

One Tree Quilt, winner of the Olfa Okada Young Designer’s Award at AQS Paducah this year, is looking smashing in the November 2008 issue of Quilter’s Newsletter magazine!  Thank you to my fellow art quilters who kindly alerted me that my piece was included in this issue.  The Olfa publicist let me know they requested permission for photo use back in April, but I thought they had decided not to print it.

Thank you, Quilter’s Newsletter magazine for including my piece!

Thick envelopes!

Here is a sneak preview of one of my quilts, Dragon, that was just accepted as a finalist in the Houston 2008 judged and juried show, Quilts: A World of Beauty! This is a detail shot of the piece, which I think is intriguing. I received 2 thin envelopes in 2007 for this show, and received 2 thick envelopes this year. I think that is improvement! I am delighted to have both Dragon and One Tree Quilt go to Houston for the International Quilt Festival during October 30-November 2. I will be able to attend again this year (yea! for living in Texas.)  I will also have the pleasure to take a couple of power packed classes with some wonderful instructors. Thank you AQS and Olfa for the 2008 Young Designers Okada Award that is allowing me to attend those classes!

AQS Olfa Young Designers Okada Award 2008

I’m delighted to say that One Tree Quilt has won an award at the AQS Paducah, KY Quilt Show this year! It received the Olfa Young Designers Okada Award. I am completely excited and honored. This piece is an extension of a 2007 weekly journal quilt that was so intriguing that I decided to make it on a larger scale. Go weekly art! My husband really encouraged me to make this piece on a larger scale and so he is super excited about tHIS award. :)

And yes, I can’t wait to spend the $5000 on art quilting supplies. Here’s looking forward to stimulating the art quilting economy.

If you are lucky enough to be at the show right now, please stop by and smile! All of the AQS award winners can be seen here. By the way, I would like to point out that 3 of the Alzheimer’s Forgetting Piece by Piece artists won awards in this show. Congrats to Diane Gaudynski and Becky Goldsmith.
