This is my weekly journal quilt 12/52 2008.  I created this design based on a cut paper black and white study I did last year.  I used recycled tie fabric for the background.  The other fabrics that create the lines are batiks and solid cottons.  I fused the linear forms to the background fabric and then stitched them in place with variegated and solid thread.

This is my Weekly Journal Quilt 11/52 2008. I was inspired by a gorgeous photo of a political celebration with women in gorgeous clothing in the colors shown here. The photo has been sitting in my sketchbook for many months. The photo also had a lot of diagonal movement, which is why I ultimately decided to use strips on the diagonal. I used variegated green thread on the strips. After I completed the strips, the piece needed some more interest, so I added a layer of tulle with flocked black polka dots. It mutes the colors just a bit and brings in contrast, which I love!

Whew! Life was busy this month. I’ll do a bit of catching up on posting weekly journal quits now!

This is my 10/52 2008 Weekly Journal Quilt. I created a thermofax screen with one of my stylized tree images on it, which I used to paint this blue tree on black fabric.  I then trimmed it up with shadows all around the tree and fused it to the black and white background fabric.  Instead of placing a fabric circle halo around the top of the quilt on this piece, I stitched a circle halo with blue variegated thread.  I enjoy how the gradation of dots on the Jane Sassaman fabric hints at leaves falling to the ground. This is my journal quilt 9/52 2008. The blue sun and rain design is a print I designed and made into a thermofax screen. I printed it on black fabric. As I was seeking a way to use it other than having it be the only focal point, I ran into a Jane Sassaman fabric, the lovely black and white leaf. I decided that it needed something to tie the images together, so I added the little purple leaves and continued some white leaves on the right side of the composition. The white leaves are echoed from the white leaves in the Jane Sassaman print. I fused these little white and purple leaves on and stitched on top with a zigzag. It reminds me of spring!

This is my AMAZING new quilting table!  Our fabulous friend agreed (even though he had no idea how huge a project he was getting himself into) to make this table for me.   I got it a week ago and it is just beautiful.  It has a recessed hole for my sewing machine so that I can sew completely flat, which will reduce drag and me having to hold a whole quilt up at the level of the foot when I am quilting.  It’s pretty tiring for my arms! I haven’t done a big quilt on it yet, but I simply can’t wait.

Since I can never repay him, I’m giving a shout out to the fabulous craftsman who designed and created it for me.  After all the R & D on the table during the last few months, we’re not quite sure what we’ll talk about at dinner when the conversation lulls.  At a conference I attended today, the speaker noted how most people who achieve their goals do not do so in a vacuum. They receive help from their support system.  I definitely agree and send my thanks!

One of the little quilts I have donated to Ami Simms as part of the AAQI Priority: Alzheimer’s Quilts fundraiser is up for auction this month.  This is #2089, Leafy Green.  You can see all 29 quilts up for auction this month here. All money used to purchase quilts is used for Alzheimer’s research. Bid for a cause!
