51/52 Weekly Journal Quilts 2008

Posted 1/6/09

Alright, so now that the pesky AQS entry is out of the way, I can finish posting my last two journal quilts of 2008!

Here is my weekly journal quilt 51/52 2008, 6″x8″. While I was on vacation in December, I spent some time in the lovely hurricane ravaged Galveston, TX. While my husband was out flying for work, I hung at the hotel and carved some new print blocks from Speedycarve Speedycut.  Talk about trying to include all your ideas in one piece!  This piece is made up of 3 of the new blocks I designed and carved.  I started with a piece of nicely textured cotton that had already been used as a wipe up cloth and had some nice orange and yellow colors to it. I then stamped all over with the 3 new blocks in green, purple and orange textile paints. I added batting and backing, and stitched it with orange and teal variegated threads. I finished the edges with a zig zag stitch.

I really like this piece. I am going to save it for the American Cancer Society fundraiser Collage Mania 2009! It’s going to look really great mounted and framed.
